First off, how much money do you think it actually cost to decorate that car? Probably an infinitesimal amount, really.
Second of all, people don't choose their sexual orientation, just like people don't choose the colour of their skin or height. Also, sexuality's kind of a spectrum.
Third of all, anyone who is homophobic is trying to seperate the Other from the Ego very markedly, perhaps trying very hard on a subconscious level to prove their own virility/manliness (manliness given they are male).
In other words, compensating for some inner insecurity.
