It's very difficult to step away from forms of media comprised of the written word or visual media of any kind.

Even if one were to avoid it altogether, I'm under the impression that bad books and bad movies are simply the result of something else.

And being mentally corrupted so to speak is a thing that can be accomplised by many means, not just media.

Gaslighting, anyone? You don't need to read books or watch movies to have that happen to you. Just have bad luck in terms of what family you have (karma!) or have bad taste in friends or partners. Mind you, the name DOES come from a movie. Hmmm....
