Jerry was a nickname given to Germans during the Second World War by soldiers and civilians of the Allied nations, in particular by the British. The nickname was originally created during World War I, but it did not find common use until World War II.
It is interesting how the term "nigger rigged" and "jury rigged" has been coming up lately. Many I know tend to say "Jerry rigged" instead of "jury rigged"....without knowing why or understanding its origins.
Gerrymandering in the United States has been practiced since the founding of the country to strengthen the power of particular political interests within legislative bodies. Partisan gerrymandering is commonly used to increase the power of a political party. In some instances, political parties collude to protect incumbents by engaging in bipartisan gerrymandering.
