Beliefs and faith

edited March 2016 in General
Are faith and beliefs something that we should have? I have never been a believer. I didn't believe in afterlife before I started to read NDE-books and articles. There must be evidence for beliefs?

From Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary:
Faith: Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.

Buddha:
“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”
So let's be reasonable. There is a difference between faith and belief?

Comments

  • Beliefs based upon limited understanding just create further restrictions and limitations. Faith pulls us out of the restrictions of belief, however, misplaced faith can also cause disaster.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

  • Beliefs and emotions belong to the astral planes. There are literary stars as well as movie stars.

Every man and every woman is a star.

    Rudimentary Left Hand Path stuff.

  • At the boundary between belief and faith is a land of Magick that can be easily by-passed by smart operators.

  • The inability to distinguish between the dark and the light is a grey area of psychic impotence.

Imagine a situation in which one goes to a heaven, but there understands that all that he believed on earth was false. I don't want to be that kind of guy.
  • It´s a very, very narrow gate. To distinguish right from wrong is more or less clear most of the times but not always. To have faith we have to be sure, no doubts, that´s hard to get.
  • It requires mystical training. Unfortunately, most teachers are false.

When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave their town, as a testimony against them.”
  • The worst mistake is to have NO teacher.
  • So books, hearsay, lectures etc are not enough, they can´t be considered teachers. But if most teachers are false what can we do, demand from the prospective teacher the written garanty, with a proper stamp, that he is the real stuff?...You BS are too far away to be THE teacher.
  • "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." - William Arthur Ward
  • If beauty is too inspiring, let's make it ugly?

  • For me you inspire but I would like very much if you could also do all the rest, not possible for us in other continents.
  • Brian is a good teacher for me. :)
I'm not ready for the high knowledge. Perhaps never will.
  • We are not good judges about ourselves in most matters, the ego gets in the way and falsifies assessments. In esoterical matters, we are mistaken most of the times, many times to our detriment.

  • What exactly is this "ego" in spirituality? Completely different than Psychoanalysis' ego?
  • Ego is the mental mess we bring from our past lifes that in a mechanical way programms our behaviour and attitudes. It´s garbige, emotional one, that we have to get rid of but it is very difficult to do so because it is engrained in us. It´s also much more than this but the main thing about it is that we should not listen to it, we should destroy it, transmut it.

  • The ego is the sense of "self" - the main protagonist in our dreams. The first person shooter. Where the perception of truth is concerned, it forms a filter that distorts everything based upon its own egocentric viewpoint. If every man and every woman is a star, it refers to the astral body. It is indeed a bloated and restless mess and is the true architect of our wicked past lives.

  • Elvis, evils, Levi's lives, veils.
  • See past the ego. I get it. I guess only meditation subdues it and perhaps selfless service.
  •  Scientology and Aleister Crowley. Influenced 1,000s of people over the course of its operation. Many become successful actors and actresses.  L.R. Hubbard's son states in the link below that it is corrupt and worked with organized crime.

L Ron Hubbard's Son's MOST REVEALING EXPOSE on his Father
      Scientology and Aleister Crowley.

Sigil magic and harmful frequency use is on television, on computer and cell phones.

When do we get to go home? I am really tired. I believe only by staying in God's word and healing others can we break this reincarnation cycle. Your thoughts please.
  • SE7EN, welcome HERE
