So I turn to my piano teacher. I want to enter an international competition I say. Why not? His other student entered one and he helped.
Honestly, I'm not there yet. Not for at least five years, even with my very ridgid practise regimen, maybe more time.

And he knows that! I'm his STUDENT. He knows my limitations, he knows what I can and cannot do.

His main goal is to teach me, not just because I pay him my hard-earned cash but because it's his role. So, obviously, he would know to discourage me from entering all together. A move that may cause me to become upset or even become defensive.
But it's still the right decision.
