      There were many, many other schools of thought that encompassed Christianity.

      Of course, Constantine the Great and other figures wanted a unification is ideologies and the creation of one sole institution.

      So everyone else who did not follow this theological stance was immediately a heretic.

      That has nothing to do with anything.
      There were different schools of thought regarding Christianity, like different sects. So Paul mentions a holy ghost! So did many others that led different schools. That misses the point.

      The point is that the Holy Trinity is not result of the idea of the founder of the religion in question. This belief is the result of what theological stance the First Council of Nicea chose to support.

      Exemple gratia: you can say there is a supreme deity, known, quite plainly, as god. Then there is this man, named Jesus. Then there is an entity known as a holy ghost of sorts. These are all three different entities, with no affiliation. The idea that these three entities should be regarded as ONE entity is what the First Council of Nicea established, and that all ideologies not concordant with this were heresies, despite their actual affiliation to the Christian religion.   

      Paul can mention a holy ghost all he wants, but he's not saying that ghost and Jesus are one in the same, or that Jesus is the equivalent to god.

      That came later. Saying Jesus=god=holy ghost isn't mentioned anywhere in the New Testament.

      Taken a number of late Roman-era/early Medieval history courses at uni.
      Haven't read much of the Bible though! Ha! But you have!

      Is that a general statement directed at all of us or towards one particular person as Oskr thinks?
